Asus has released of its 2 top of the line X299 ROG series of motherboards, the Rampage VI Apex and Rampage VI Extreme, which were revealed at Computex 2017.

ASUS ROG Rampage VI Apex

The Rampage VI Apex has already made headlines earlier when it achieved the world record overclock on all 4 cores and 8 threads of a 7740k at 7.56GHz, narrowly beating out the Gigabyte X299 SOC Champion at 7.5GHz. It also has one DIMM slot per channel to improve memory stability and performance, and the DIMM.2 slots are positioned to “exploit airflow from off-the-shelf memory coolers, preventing thermal throttling from slowing your storage during record attempts.” Asus has also cut the Rampage VI Apex PCB in a manner which should allow for easier cable management, resulting in a more edgy look overall.

ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme

The Rampage VI Extreme the knob to 11 with a slew of added features. The motherboard features 10Gb LAN support, 802.11ad Wi-Fi, and support for up to 128GB of memory, versus the Apex’s gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac wireless, and support for up to 64GB of memory. It also sports a front plate and back plate and for added physical stability similar to the Sabertooth line of boards, and a GPU holder to prevent sagging. The board also has a LiveDash OLED display to to monitor fan speeds, system temperatures, and frequencies as well as custom messages and graphics. Dual flow headers allow coolant data monitoring, and a special connector “lets water blocks designed for the Extreme provide flow, temperature, and leakage data.”

Asus has announced that both motherboards will be available for purchase at leading resellers for $430 for the Apex and $650 for the Extreme.
