Grand Theft Auto V players in GTA Online have reported receiving in-game messages stating that Grand Theft Auto VI will launch in 2019. But it’s not true. It would be exceedingly strange for a video game maker to “leak” the existence and release window of its next game in this way.
Rockstar on twitter confirms that the pop-up is a “hoax” that originated from a mod, and added that it is “not an official message or statement from Rockstar Games.” Rockstar hasn’t provided any information on how this happened. Reddit community has speculated that an opportunistic hacker is using mods and a flaw in the Rockstar Social Club’s messaging system to send out the message. According to their roadmap Rockstar is currently ramping up for the Oct. 26 release of Red Dead Redemption 2. The much-anticipated sequel will be available for PS4 and Xbox One.
