The headset market is currently on the rise as many companies release their products every year. Alienware is well-known for producing high-end laptops,monitors,headsets and other peripherals and we will be putting Alienware AW988 Wireless Gaming Headset to a test to see it’s build and wireless sound quality. AW988 offers AlienFX Lighting which light-up their Alien logo on both ear-cups.

Design and Comfort:

By looking at this headset you can easily identify that it’s an Alienware product by looking at it’s build quality which matches with their other products. The design is not overly done which feels premium and decent that perfectly matches with a black themed build.

The headband and the ear-cups are made up of plastic with a soft touch rubberized feel to it. Talking about the wight the headset is not so heavy (at 400g) and feels great while long gaming sections as i felt more comfortable with these headset compared to LogiTech G933 which are also a bit heavier. You will be able to wear these headphone for hours which is great for competitive gaming.

Sound and Microphone Performance:

In sound performance the AW988 is loud, rich in precision gaming which means you can hears all of your environmental surrounding i.e footsteps,gunshots and explosions. Meanwhile we observed that the bass of the headset is a bit low compared to LogiTech G933. Alienware AW988 uses 2.4GHz wireless technology which same as Wi-Fi. It also can be used with 3.5mm analog audio that comes with the headset but the headset.

The battery life of the headset is tremendous, you can freely use the headset full day in a single full charge. The battery is said to be last up-to 15 hours and we also got almost got the same up-time with a single charge. The battery duration can be increase by turning off it’s RGB LEDs.

The microphone of the headset is relatively good for in-game voice chat but not recommended for streaming. You can manually mute the microphone with the button or by pushing it upward till it’s in position and the microphone also indicates if the mic is on or off. You can cycle through Gaming,Music and Movies profile with the button located on the bottom of the left earpiece which can also be done through the Alienware Headset Center.

Software:

Talking about the software you can tweak the headset to your taste, configure it’s RGB LEDs and microphone. There are five different gaming profiles configurations for Shooter, Strategy, Role Play, Racing and Alienware (Default Profile). Overall the software is really helpful in letting you customize and setup profiles to your desire.

Final Conclusion:

Overall Alienware AW988 is a great wireless gaming headset that offers premium build quality and comfortable experience along with 7.1 surround sound. The headset falls on the expensive side costing $200 but that doesn’t make AW988 a bad choice but it’s a bit on a pricey side as compared to the competition.
